Garmin Gravel Worlds Adds Live Event Coverage, Bolsters Women’s Pro Prize Purse
Free video coverage to include every finishing rider, from first to last
Lincoln, NE –– June 18, 2024 –– For the first time in the event’s 15-year history, the Garmin Gravel Worlds gravel road bicycle race will feature live-streamed video. To be held August 21-25, the event offers 300-mile, 150-mile, 75-mile and 50-kilometer cycling events, and 25- and 10-kilometer runs, all starting and finishing at the Lancaster Event Center in Lincoln, Nebraska.
2024 Garmin Gravel Worlds event coverage will begin before the Men’s Pro 150-mile start Saturday, August 24, and end after the final rider has finished late into Saturday evening. The live coverage will include lead and follow motorcycles for both the Men’s and Women’s Pro fields, as well as a fifth camera focused on riders deeper in the pack. There will also be live commentating from beginning to end. The live stream video will be free for viewers worldwide.
Thanks to expanded sponsorship from Goodlife Brands, the event has also added $10,000 to its Women’s Pro prize purse, while adding a fresh twist to the racing. The first twenty Pro Women to arrive at the second race checkpoint ahead of riders from the general race field, which starts 25 minutes later, will receive $500, regardless of where they finish the race.
To facilitate this ‘race within a race’, organizers have revised the start schedule to separate the Men’s and Women’s Pro fields in the 150-mile cycling event. Men’s Pro riders will now start at 5:55am, with Women’s Pro riders starting 10 minutes later, at 6:05am. The rest of the 150-mile field will start at 6:30am.
The additional prize money for the Women’s Pro field is in addition to the $30,000 prize pool announced earlier this year. That purse will be evenly split between the Women’s and Men’s Pro fields, paid five places deep.
Garmin Gravel Worlds also unveiled its “First to Last” initiative earlier this year. The initiative celebrates each participant’s unique journey, while also reinforcing the event’s commitment to philanthropy.
Central to the “First to Last” initiative is an extended cut-off time for the event’s premier 150-mile gravel cycling event. There will also be a new First to Last party –– sponsored by All Bodies on Bikes and Ride With GPS –– celebrating the perseverance and determination of the final finisher.
For 2024, Garmin Gravel Worlds has also committed $30,000 in donations to causes aligned with the gravel cycling community and its values. A portion of the donations will come from $200 donations made to a charity of choice by each professional cyclist participating in the event. Each professional racer will carry the name of their selected charity on their number plate during the event.
